Family Vacation in GTNP | Grand Teton National Park Photographer
Early in the season, the water can look completely different from the rocky shoreline most people recognize later in the summer. For this family session, the water was especially high, reaching well beyond its usual shoreline and giving the entire landscape a softer, more expansive feeling.
This family of three brought their dogs along and spent the evening exploring the water’s edge with Joy. We created the traditional photographs with everyone looking, but left plenty of room for movement, play, and the quieter in-between moments that make a gallery feel like their actual family.
This location is beautiful for its variety. The lake creates a wide, peaceful backdrop with the northern Tetons stretching across the horizon, while the nearby evergreens and natural shoreline allow the gallery to shift between sweeping landscapes and closer, more intimate photographs.
The high water changed how we moved through the location, but that is part of photographing in the Tetons. Water levels, weather, wildflowers, foliage, and mountain visibility are never exactly the same from one season to the next. We work with the landscape as it is that evening and allow those conditions to become part of the story.
Joy photographs here often and other locations throughout the northern end of Grand Teton National Park. Her relaxed, connection-led approach made this evening feel easy, natural, and completely centered on this little family and the life they share.
